The most renowned organ builders have given Tende and the Roya Valley villages several marvellous historical organs, kept in working order by generations of passionate admirers: come and listen to these wonderful sounds that echo under the vaults of our churches and chapels… Renowned organ players give custom concerts or demonstrations (artistic manager: Silvano Rodi).

The Organ Road

For centuries Tende was an obliged transit point on the famous ‘Salt Road’ taking salt to the rich Piedmont in Italy. The salt was carried on mule back in incessant caravans – up and down the mountains – and Tende still loves this adventurous past and pays a yearly respect to its four-footed fearless companions. You can join them in history and walk the old Salt Road on foot or mule back like the old times – except for the brigands!!!

Tradition and devoutness have left their mark in the magnificent, rather over ornamental, baroque chapels or simple agricultural tools eaten away by ages of use…This was a village with a hard working life, giving its few wealth to express its faith; all this can be admired in its architecture and some private collections kept by wise Tendasque people…
